La bodega:
Herederos del Marquez de Riscal
Marqués de Riscal is one of the oldest Rioja wineries. Founded in Elciego (Álava) in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga, from the outset it has been a point of reference in the winemaking business at both national and international level.
In the heart of the Marqués de Riscal wine cellars, a colossal project has been brought to life with the special contribution by the Canadian architect, Frank O. Gehry. It gives shape to the cellars’ spirit – innovation and tradition are united in a single building, made using the most modern materials and constituting a true architectural landmark.
Wines from Tierra de Castilla y Leon, Vinos de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal currently owns 198 hectares of vines in the districts of Toro and San Román de Hornija, which both belong to the Toro appellation. 100% of the vines are grafted onto stocks with low levels of vigour in the typical gravel soils of the terraces of the River Duero.
Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo): a variety obtained from the mass selection of the best plots of this variety from the Duero region. It produces aromatic, full-bodied wines with good colour, backbone, freshness and intensity.
